Customer circumstance
We were contacted by Idapt, a project management agency that specialises in accessible environments, who we have worked with on a previous occasion. Idapt wanted us to help one of their clients who was looking for an interim solution to allow him to be back with his family whilst a long-term adaptation project was undertaken at his property.
TSG had recently provided the MOD with a temporary Disabled Wet Room facility for an injured serviceman who wished to spend Christmas with his family. As a result of this project, TSG had already designed a Modular Wet Room which could be constructed quickly and without any adaptations to the property to provide a Wet Room extension to any property with the available outdoor space.
TSG Solution
Our Service Team Manager met with Idapt and the Care Team Manager who was responsible for managing the customer’s ongoing care needs at a rental property where he would be living whilst permanent adaptations were made to his home. We gained an understanding of the customer’s needs and limitations and conducted a detailed site survey to assess what we could provide given the outside space available.
Plans were provided to Idapt and the care company regarding the 3m x 3m Wet Room and Link Corridor which would provide a seamless and watertight link from the customer’s downstairs bedroom directly into the wet room. The customer required specific facilities which were sourced separately, but we were able to accommodate these within the design, this included a fixed hoist system and an adjustable changing bed.
OUTCOME:
TSG were asked to construct and fully commission the disabled wet room before the 10th March, 2019. We were also asked to liaise and co-ordinate with the supplier of the hoist and changing bed to ensure we all attended on the same day to provide any help or assistance either party required.
Without access to our temporary wet room the client would need to remain in a medical setting and would not be able to have his family around him for up to 18 months, which was the anticipated planning adaptation time for his own property.
